There are several Types, Sizes and Styles of posters. They are as follows:
1 SH = U. S. One-Sheet...Usually measures 27" horizontal and 41" vertical on light paper stock made for every film and usually folded. However, since about 1977 some were rolled. Also, recent One-Sheets are sometimes printed on both sides and 27" X 40".
1/2 SH = U. S. Half-Sheet...Measures 28" horizontal & 22" vertical. They are on heavier stock paper (some are folded and some are rolled). These have great graphics and are easily framed with frames you can buy at a local store. They usually show a big horizontal image.
3 SH = U. S. Three-Sheet …Measures 41" horizontal & 81" vertical folded and on light paper stock. The image is bigger and usually better than the One-Sheet. They are very rare for films from the 1920s through the 1940s.
IN = U. S. Insert … Are 14" horizontal and 36" vertical usually on heavy paper. They show a vertical image. These were folded (usually three folds) and some recent ones were rolled.
WC = U. S. Window Card...Usually 14" horizontal & 22" vertical with a blank white area on top to list play-dates, times, location and prices. Larger or smaller versions are rare. Some were folded. The image is usually like the One-Sheet (but the price is usually much lower). NOTE: ...Mini Window Cards are 8" X 14" and Jumbo Window Cards are 22" X 28". I would tell you the size.
LC = U. S. Lobby Cards...Usually 14" horizontal & 11" vertical done in sets of 4 to 12 cards (rarely more) and usually on heavy stock paper. They are easily framed. You can buy the frames at a local store. Prices vary due to the images, stars, rarity, condition, etc.
NOTE: ... Mini Lobby Cards are 8" X 10" and Jumbo Lobby Cards are 14" X 17". I would tell you the size.
Lobby Card Types: TC = Title Card ...Lists the film title, credits, graphics, etc. Prices vary due to the images. SC = Scene Card ...Shows a scene and rarely art. Prices vary due to the images, stars, condition, etc.
PB = U. S. Press Book …Poster images, photos, stills, flyers, star bios, articles, plot outlines, etc. for theaters to use to promote the film locally. They are very rare for films from the 1920s and the 1930s. They authenticate posters. The cover is sometimes the same as the poster image.
Photos / Stills … (Not a poster) Black & white or color photos taken by a photographer on the film set ( 8"x10" or 11"x14" ). They may show scenes not in the film. Some are publicity photos of the stars and /or the film.
Miscellaneous … Rare styles and sizes such as Banners, Standees and Door Panels. I will list the exact size for you.
Advance Posters are sometimes issued prior to the film opening. The image is usually very different from the regular One-Sheet so they are very collectible and highly prized.
NOTE: ... Sometimes 1 SHEETS and 1/2 SHEETS were printed with different artwork (styles) and are quite rare.
OTHER SIZES ... DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN CODES:
2 SH = U. S. Two Sheet (Subway Sheet)… Measures 54" vertical X 41" horizontal folded and used for Subway ads.
6 SH = U. S. Six Sheet ...Measures 81" X 81" and folded. It is very hard to find them for films issued before 1950. 30 X 40 = A 30" horizontal X 40" vertical U. S. poster on light cardboard and usually silk-screened. Rare!
40 X 60 = A 40" horizontal X 60" vertical U. S. poster on light cardboard and usually silk-screened. Rare!
Billboards = ( 24 Sheets and up to 30 Sheets ) ...Large outdoor U. S. billboard sizes. They are rarely seen and sold.
Foreign... Sizes vary from 14" x 22", 23" x 30", 29" x 43", 30" x 40", 45" x 70", 47" x 63", 63" x 94" and others. I list the size. These usually have very different (and better?) art / image than the U. S. version and some are very hard to find.
Re = Reissue … A film may have been released to the theatres again to show. A new poster usually is issued with new artwork. The word Re-Release or "R" is added usually to the poster. These are not as valuable as the originals but sometimes they have better artwork. I would list it as Re-1981 as an example.
NOTE: Some posters are Linen or Conservation Paper backed for costly preservation. I state the restoration if any. PRICING AND CONDITION CODES: Conditions vary because these were never meant to be collected. They were used to promote a film locally and then eventually discarded like old newspapers. Many, many were destroyed especially from the 1920s and the 1930s. Many early ones had great art of the stars to get your attention and to bring in the customers. I price my posters according to the following condition codes:
1- EX = (Excellent)… Never used or very gently used … (almost like new).
2- VF = (Very Fine)… Clean and bright but may have one or more of pinholes, tiny paper cuts, tiny fold slits, tiny border wear, extra folds.
3- F = (Fine) ... Clean but may have more of pinholes, cuts and/or fold slits, border wear, smudges, tape marks and may have some back tape.
4- P = (Poor)…These have several major problems and flaws. I tell you about them. Good parts can be used to repair others.
After the condition, I consider the popularity of the star or stars, film title, the poster size, graphics, country of origin plus the relative rarity and / or popularity of the item when pricing each one. However, you have the final evaluation when you see it.
If you do not like it, you can return it (insured and in the same condition) for a FULL REFUND and no questions asked within seven … (7) ... days if you call or e-mail me first to alert me in case the shipment gets lost. That is a big problem for me and you. Just a few items were returned in years of selling. References are available.
Buy what you like, … and you must like what you buy! That is my policy.
NOTE: Similar item I have sell on eBay with other prices. But check the condition on eBay (which affects prices). I am shocked at the many poor condition and/or badly described items and/or reproduction items listed as originals. Do you really want to collect and display badly torn, stained, with holes, etc. items or not original items? I say... no! True bargains are as rare as dinosaurs!
Also, you get frustrated with eBay's constant down-time, poor customer service, higher and higher fees, people trying to rip you off, etc.
That will not happen with me here because I deal directly with you on a one-on-one basis. It much better, safer and faster.
E-mail me by clicking below if you have other questions I can answer, to list your wants or tell me if you have items for sale. I may have what you want but it is not yet listed on the site.
